Nurole is a curated Board Level Hiring platform, it’s a SaaS aimed at B2B and B2C audiences.

My impact at Nurole

I joined Nurole as the founding and only product designer in the company and then grew the team by hiring another Product Designer in July 2022. Nurole’s platform has a world class CSat of 4.8 which is the highest CSat in all member experience. I helped grow the revenue by completely redoing the marketing website and contributing to the new branding in 2021 but I also contributed to the growth of our member base from 40k to over 80k now.

Pure platform placement rate has been evergrowing since I joined and that has a lot to do with the many user journeys we improved over the past almost 3 years.

We alternated between fixing existing journeys (e.g. roles list and search, application form, client portal, meet tool, etc.) as well as creating original proof of concept projects (e.g. collated roles from other platforms, opening our members profiles to our clients).

I’ve been working end-to-end from early research, strategy sessions with senior stakeholders, through to collaborating with PM and devs in the discovery phase and then testing final designs with end users internally.

All that was done while developing a strong digital colour palette and implementing a full UI kit brick by brick, following the atomic design conventions.

My Process

  • Workshoping early ideation and strategy sessions to shape and understand a problem space

  • Defining user journey and information architecture

  • Sketching early “paperframes” as well as low or high fidelity wireframes

  • Shaping designs and create interactive prototypes for user testing

  • Conducting user research and gathering insights to categorise and prioritise feedback

  • Delivering high-end shiny designs ready to be built by my squad

  • Checking live build to pair with devs on any gap between design (UX and UI) and test/live code

All this happens through lots of collaboration and discussions with the squad (PM + engineers) as well as other stake-holders from the business (BD, CS, Insights, Ops, SLT etc.) and with a highly strategic mindset, always keeping the user front of mind.

Before I joined

This is what the website and tools looked like up to 2020 before I joined. My first focus was to rework the full digital language, create a UI Kit and completely rework the architecture of the navigation. As you can see, there was no distinction between the Marketing website content/menu and the signed in experience to browse through roles.

For almost 3 years I reworked all the core member and client journeys.

Nurole platforms

Marketing website

Public site to sell Nurole’s offering and explain what it is about as well as share content (news, guides, success stories). That website doesn’t require sign in and can be accessible everywhere across devices.

Client tooling

Our clients (who can also be members) have a dedicated SaaS tooling to be able to browse through candidates who have applied to their role(s). They can assess them, share profiles with their board members, sift them, write notes about candidates and also organise their interview rounds all withing the Nurole ecosystem.

Member tooling

Our curated members have a personalised list of roles available to them corresponding to their preferences and tailored to their experience. They can browse through roles, apply to them and manage their profile to show their latest professional experience.

Internal admin

Nurolers manage our members, clients, interviews etc. through an internal admin tool that is a very big repository that we have slowly started to decoupled into more manageable micro services and tools. For example, the client tooling was fully integrated in the same old system as the one Nurolers use and we created a separate, lighter and more user focused platform for them to assess their candidates more efficiently.

Marketing website

Following a rebranding done externally, I was responsible of applying it on all our digital content, websites and colour palette.

This was the perfect opportunity to implement the new architecture split making a real difference for visitor and signed in journeys. We reworked the entire navigation to make it dedicated to the marketing website content.

That was a hugely collaborative 6 week project where the whole squad was involved at every stage involving senior stakeholders from the rest of the business at relevant stages.

« I'm constantly astonished by how productive Melanie is, and in particular that she has been so productive from such an early stage after joining Nurole. She is professional and courteous in all engagements and clearly brings a deep passion alongside a contagious enthusiasm for what she is doing. I have told a few members of the leadership team that I believe she is one of our best hires, and this impression is only growing with time. »

My values and journey being a lead Product designer at Nurole

Managing the design team, mentoring and collaborating has been an incredible journey for me and I would love to pursue this in my next opportunity. I learnt so much being a manager and love how it broadens perspectives and opens your mind to different ways of working, always exchanging tips and best practice.

I’ve also grown in my strategic thinking, creating a vision for our team through a design strategy, being brought very early in projects to be a core decision maker on crucial decisions from small journey tweaks to full new products we build.

Below are the values I believe in and the ones I put in place at Nurole for my team:

  • We bring the most value by helping the wider business with strategic thinking in early stages of projects and streams of work.

We are enablers to help formulate and visualise ideas, but we also bring everybody together with other core decision makers to perform proper product thinking and shape solution in a smart manner.

  • We support insights and discovery stages by creating efficient prototypes to be tested in order to and get meaningful feedback and to iterate in an efficient way.

  • Ensure that design is contributing to max efficiency of broader squads through an ever evolving design system that is bridging the gap between development, product management and product design.

  • Everything we do is centred on our customers and tailored to their needs and constraints. Once a problem is identified, we know how to best address it so it’s customer first.

  • Through our unique branding and design language, we stand out from our competitors and have a strong language that helps customers recognise Nurole when they see our content.
